Introduction of Cladding Technology

Cladding refers to a process where the composite, usually CRA (Corrosion Resistant Alloy) is bonded electrically, mechanically or through some other high pressure and temperature process onto another dissimilar metal (the substrate) to enhance its durability, strength or appearance. The majority of clad products made today uses carbon steel as the substrate and aluminum, nickel, nickel alloys, copper, copper alloys and stainless steel as the clad materials to be bonded. Typically, the purpose of the clad is to protect the underlying steel substrate from the environment it resides in.

In cladding the CRA material to carbon steel, there are two methods to go about it:
Metallurgical cladding is carried out by various operations such as co-extrusion, hot rolling, explosive bonding or weld overlay. The major problem with metallurgical cladding is the high costs which is created by the limited number of suppliers due to the complex demanding manufacturing process of metallurgical cladding the plates except for weld overlay. So the weld overlay cladding is the much more often used metallurgical cladding methods.
Mechanical cladding mainly applies to pipe.It is usually called Mechanical Lined pipe(MLP).Mechanical lined is to bond the CRA pipe and the backing steel pipe by using spring back variation which can be achieved by means of Hydro-forming or full-length pipe expander which is much easier and convenient than metallurgical cladding. So for pipes, mechanical lined is the main cladding methods.

CST(CANGZHOU STEEL PIPE&FITTING CO.,LTD) is specializing in both metallurgical and mechanical cladding pipeline products. For any cladding products required,we would provide the most professional support!!!
