Clad Pipes

PRODUCT DETAILS

In modern pipeline systems, especially those exposed to aggressive media, balancing mechanical strength with corrosion and wear resistance is a constant challenge. Clad pipes, also known as cladded pipelines or weld overlay pipes, offer an effective solution by combining the structural integrity of carbon or alloy steel with the superior surface performance of corrosion-resistant alloys.

These bimetallic pipes are widely used in the oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, and marine sectors, where both durability and material efficiency are critical.

Forming Process & Cladding Technology of Clad Pipes

FNS employs advanced automated welding technologies to produce high-performance clad pipes. During the cladding process, a corrosion- and wear-resistant alloy is metallurgically bonded to the inner surface of the base pipe using precision welding methods. This process creates a durable composite structure that offers excellent resistance to:

  • Corrosion (from acids, chlorides, H₂S, CO₂, etc.)
  • Erosion (from high-velocity fluids or slurries)
  • High operating temperatures

We utilize several automated cladding methods tailored to different pipe sizes and alloy types, including:

  • PTA (Plasma Transferred Arc) welding – High deposition rate, strong metallurgical bonding
  • Laser cladding – Low dilution, high precision, minimal heat-affected zones
  • GTAW (TIG) – Excellent control for thinner layers
  • CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) – Low spatter, high repeatability, ideal for large-diameter weld overlay pipe production

These processes ensure uniform alloy distribution along the pipe axis, excellent adhesion, and consistent performance over long service periods.

Material options of clad pipes

To suit various application conditions, we offer a wide range of base and clad material combinations.

Base Materials:

  • Carbon steel (e.g., ASTM A106, A53)
  • Low alloy steel (e.g., 12Cr1MoV, 10CrMo910)
  • Stainless steel (optional for special corrosion zones)

Cladding Materials:

  • Stainless steel (304L, 316L, 317L)
  • Nickel-based alloys (Inconel 625, Incoloy 825)
  • Cobalt-based alloys (Stellite series)
  • Duplex / Super Duplex (UNS S31803, S32750)
  • Titanium and other customized corrosion-resistant alloys

In certain applications, transitional layers such as ER309LMo are used to improve bonding between the base and clad materials.

Size Range and Specifications of clad pipes

Our cladded pipeline products are available in the following range:

  • Pipe Diameter: 6″ to 48″
  • Pipe Length: 6 to 12 meters
  • Cladding Thickness: Typically 2–10 mm, customizable
  • Welding Standards: In accordance with ASME, ASTM, or client-specified norms

Each clad pipe is produced under a rigorous quality control system that includes:

  • Positive Material Identification (PMI)
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Cladding thickness measurement
  • Dilution rate analysis
  • Visual and dye penetrant inspection
